Midyetts Report

11-19-2007

In no way do I compare myself with Paul, but I am feeling some of his emotions when he said to Timothy: ". . . the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:6, 7)

While we haven't finished our course, we are announcing our official retirement as of January 1, 2008. I say "retirement," meaning from being sponsored by Edmond Road Baptist Church and Hudson Avenue Baptist Church to represent them on the front lines of missions these past 57+ years.

Having said that, Sarah and I are still revved up to take advantage of open doors here and in India . We have noted a number of Baptist pastors, though retired, are still in the harness working as a support to the existing ministry.

We ask ourselves, why should we retire into oblivion when the anointing is still on us?

My medical qualifications are still with me. My innovative medical instrument is still valuable for an India ministry. Some will be surprised to know that the famous leprosy doctor, Dr. Carl Brandt of Vellore Hospital trained me years ago to help lepers in their basic needs. I believe, along with encouraging the local churches, I can extend my ministry to lepers in India .

Sarah's archive of Bible study materials is being used in many places. She makes a convincing presentation in the Christian school system in India . She would love to continue those presentations.

Yes, we would welcome a source of sustained support so that in our "retreaded" years we can still accomplish work that others are not qualified for. As you pray for us ask if the Lord might send you some extra funds to help us in our outreach. The good news is that our sponsoring church plans to support us with $100 per month for the coming year. One other church in Texas has promised to continue supporting us in appreciation of our years of service. We suggest that others who continue support do the same. That way, checks could be made out to J. T. Midyett, with "Australasian Ministries" on the "For" line, and sent to our U. S. address, 1501 Winchester Avenue, Columbia, SC 29203-2065, where they will be deposited to be available for our ongoing work.

Then whenever the Lord opens the door for a mission trip to India again, we will go from the local Eaton Baptist Church , the only one within walking distance, with their prayers and blessing. For those who show interest in our ongoing ministry, we will be sending you brief reports of your investment and fresh prayer requests.

Your soon-to-retire missionary,

J.T. Midyett

PS I can't close this letter without asking you to pray for a young Indian man who feels called to the ministry. First he will have to get a theological education. His father is a successful village pastor with no funds to send his son to seminary. This will be a long term and valuable investment project. His name is S. Yesu Cheran, and he goes by the nickname of Cherry. To donate to this project, mark your check "Theological Education."
