Midyetts Report

March 7, 2006

The following was written just before noon Friday, March 03, 2006, and we Midyetts have just received it in Hyderabad. Note especially parts we underlined and added in bold print:

Dear Pastor and the church,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thanks a lot for the prayers. I got several e-mails for an update on the situation.

The bail application has been rejected by the court for the brothers in the Jail. So they will have to move a higher court. (Note from another email: The arrested are all of the M. A's organization. I do not know all names. But one is Mr. R. S. Nair, the administrator, and Mr. Thankachen who is the incharge of the orphanage. And two of them are book room incharge. etc. Phone call today: Another is the pastor of the orphanage)

The registration of the society that runs the Bible school and the ministry has been cancelled by the state.* They have been issued notices by the local bodies that the structures (buildings) are unauthorized and so why not it be demolished?

Several churches, schools and schools buses of Christian institutions have been attacked and damaged.

There was an article in Hindustan Times (a national newspaper) that there is a deep conspiracy against the minorities (Christians), and the administration should be careful that another case like the incident of burning Graham Stains and his sons be repeated in Rajasthan. (Graham Stains was an Australian missionary who was burnt to death with two of his children a few years back in the state of Orissa. As they slept in their vehicle, they were attacked by a mob.) So far in the last one week twelve churches and several churches were attacked. Police come after the damage is done.

A group of officials had come yesterday from the Samaj Kallyan Vibhag (Dept. of Social welfare) to take the Kota orphanage under their custody. But the local police and administration did not do it saying it will not be possible for them to feed and take care of over 2500 children now. So we do not know what they will do next.

On the first I was not here at home. One CID officer (equivalent to your FBI) called my wife and asked her if there is any problem call him. He also said that he needs all the information about our society and the income and expenditure for the last 5 years. Our believers need more inner strength now.

Dr. M. A. Thomas and his son are still at large, and the police are searching for them. (Sam V. phoned Wednesday to say warrants had been issued for their arrest) The last victory shall be ours and let us continue to pray.

Yours in Him,
Sam.

*Since the registration of the society has been cancelled, they will no longer be able to receive foreign funds for their work in Kota.

We are still with our long-time friends in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, adjusting our curriculum to Indian needs.

Yours faithfully,
J. T. and Sarah
