Are you still following Jesus, maybe just like Peter did? Afar off!
We see Peter at the Devil’s fire verse 54
-It wasn’t a place of service (James 4:8)
To far away from God to serve him!
The Devils fire isn’t a fire of devotion or praise!
The Devils fire may be your bed (laziness) May be your bad attitude.
-It wasn’t peace for his soul (Ephesians 2:17) Too far for peace!
They may have had a warm fuzzy feeling, but no true warmth!
-It wasn’t a proper situation (James 4:17) (Proverbs 4:26)
It affected his standing. Too far for proper fellowship
*We see Peter with the Devil’s friend’s verse 66-67 Too many today have worldly friends with worldly ways, desiring worldly things!
*Look at his distance (2 Corinthians 6:14)
His place wasn’t with that crowd, but with Christ! Many today have drifted far away from God!
*Look at his defilement (Matthew 16:24) (1 Thessalonians 5:22)
Look where he was standing.
Look who he was standing with.
*Look at his deceit Peter turned his back on Jesus (Matthew 5:16)
Some try to hide in the crowd! Some try to hide from Christ, but he knows who, where, and what you are!
*We see Peter suffering in the Devil’s fear verse 68-70 (Matthew 10:22)
*Where was his courage? Is this the same man that was in verse 31-47
*Where was his concern? “He was just standing by the fire, not by Christ!”
*Where was his conviction? He wasn’t the man he thought he was!
*We see Peter speaking the Devil’s filth verse 71 (1 Thessalonians 4:7)
*Showing a worthless character “My how he changed” *Speaking the wrong conversation (He started talking like them)
*Standing with a wicked crowd (The wrong crowd in the pulpits, the wrong crowd in positions in the Church, will put us in the wrong position. The wrong crowd will do the wrong things, The wrong crowd say the wrong things)
Many today have never experienced joy unspeakable, because they have never experienced Jesus!
How close are you following? Peter could still see Jesus, he could still hear Jesus. He wasn't standing close to Jesus, and by doing that he lost his peace, his place of service.
(James 4:8) Let us draw close, and not follow him far away!
