I. DON’T TRADE THE FUTURE FOR THE PRESENT1. Double portion of paternal inheritance.
Deuteronomy 21:16-17, “Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn: But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.”
a. We get a portion in Heaven and another one on Earth.
b. It’s a good deal to serve God.
c. God has wonderful dreams and we get to fulfill them.
2. Claim Father’s principal blessings.
a. Canaan (God has a place for you to conquer)
b. Great Nation
c. Blessing to Others.
3. Lineage of Christ.
A. ESAU GAVE UP GOD’S BLESSINGS BECAUSE HE COULDN’T WAIT.

A. LINEAGE OF CHRIST.
1. He could have been the cause for all the earth being blessed.
2. He could have been the father of God’s chosen people.
3. His children could have conquered Canaan and become the greatest nation.
4. He gave it up for a little stew.
B. HIS WANT FOR THE PHYSICAL WAS GREATER THEN IT WAS FOR THE SPIRITUAL.
1. What do you have that keeps you from being fruitful?
2. I’d go on visitation, but I need Television now.
3. I’d surrender my talents, but I’d have to be faithful to church.
4. I’d be faithful to church, but I have a life too.
C. GOD HAS FAR BETTER THINGS FOR YOU TO ACCOMPLISH.
III. DON’T TRADE FAMILY FOR PERSONAL GAIN.1. I wanted to be an accountant.
2. Sports accomplish nothing when all is said and done.
3. Wrestling (Illus.)
“All in this life will one day pass, only what’s done for Christ will last.”
A. ESAU’S CHILDREN WILL NEVER KNOW THE BLESSING OF THEIR GRANDPA.
1. He could have passed it on to his son.
2. His children won’t be used of God like Jacob’s will.
B. DON’T KEEP YOUR FAMILY FROM GOD.
1. Working on Sundays.
2. Taking your kids to family outings during church.
3. Not going to visitation and soul-winning with your family.

C. DON’T TRADE A PARENT FOR A BUDDY.
D. WE LIVE IN A GENERATION OF KIDS THAT DON’T KNOW WHAT GOD DID YEARS AGO.
1. They don’t know the revivals that John R. Rice had.
2. They don’t see the meetings where B. R. Lankin preached.
3. We only hear stories of Billy Sunday’s revivals that lasted months.
E. YOU CAN STILL LET YOUR CHILDREN SEE GOD WORK.
IV. DON’T TRADE THE PHENOMENAL FOR THE PETTY.1. Dad took me to trailer parks to witness.

2. (Illus.) Preacher who gave a negative recommendation for a member’s loan.
Malachi 3:8, “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.”
3. By the way, that verse tells us that we rob God when we don’t give tithes and offerings. Offerings are what are given above the tithe and you are a thief if you stop at the tithe.
4. The phenomenal is being able to change the world for Christ.

B. LAYMEN WHO GO OUT AND ACCOMPLISH NOTHING.
1. They work with all their might, but come home and lead a different life.
2. Can’t understand why God never blesses their ministries.
3. That’s not always the case, but it is sometimes.
C. PEOPLE THAT HAVE SIN IN THEIR LIVES HINDER THE CHURCH.
1. One thing that Achan’s sin did was cause the death of 36 men. 36 families without a dad.
2. Another thing it did was cause the hand of God to be removed from Israel so that they fled from their enemies instead of defeating them.
3. Our personal sin can cause God’s hand to be removed from this church.PRINCIPLES:
1. God has wonderful blessings for your life.
2. There will be times when the other side looks greener.
3. You’re problems usually aren’t as bad as they seem.
